Our cropping plan is tailored to meet the dry matter requirements for optimal silage corn production, encompassing every stage from planting to harvesting, drying, storage, and chopping. This method ensures the creation of top-quality silage ready for export.
Our commitment begins with planting silage corn seeds at the season’s outset, followed by regular crop monitoring and vigilant protection against stressors such as drought, insects, and diseases. These efforts translate into a bountiful yield, providing livestock producers with a consistently high-yielding and palatable forage source. Corn silage proves to be an exceptionally productive feed for farm animals, outperforming many other crops cultivated in Pakistan.
PLANT POPULATIONS AND GROWTH STRATEGY
Cotoimpex meticulously determines the ideal plant population for silage, factoring in seed quality and soil conditions with precision. This selection is a critical step in our process. Typically, for silage crops, we aim for a population of 2,000 to 4,000 plants per acre, which differs from the recommended amount for grain production.
At Cotoimpex farms, we typically achieve the desired stand of 26,000 to 32,000 plants per acre, employing the most effective corn silage harvesting techniques. Our approach is adaptable and tailored to the productivity of the specific soils we work with. On the most fertile soils, we have achieved even higher plant populations within this range.
Our method is supported by a two-year trial conducted in Pakistani soil, which indicates that silage yields are maximized at 42,000 plants per acre. However, Cotoimpex optimizes estimated yields per acre and whole corn plant digestibility at 30,000 plants per acre, offering competitive corn silage prices in Pakistan.
CORN SILAGE BUNDING AND STORAGE EXCELLENCE
Cotoimpex takes pride in its exceptional bundling and packaging methods for corn silage. Our primary concern is to preserve the valuable nutrients within the silage during the packaging process. We achieve this by compacting the silage into 80 KG round bales and then encasing them in protective plastic film. This meticulous packaging approach not only simplifies transportation but also minimizes nutrient loss.
When it comes to storing corn silage, Cotoimpex maintains the highest standards. Our storage facilities are designed to shield the silage from direct sunlight and maintain the appropriate temperature. As a result, our corn silage can be securely stored for up to three years before export. This commitment to quality and preservation sets us apart in the industry.
